Our team began their adventure in racing when we were 10 years old (about 1988-1990), however we started sailing when we were 4 - 5 years old. Our home town - Giżycko is surrounded by many big lakes and since joining the sailing club in primary school we’ve never looked back! During those years we sailed on many boats (mainly OPP, Cadet, Raceboard, DN, 730, and since 1997 to 2005 - 470) and took part in hundreds of events - the most important of which I will describe in the near future.
After many years of racing, we chose match-racing as our primary sailing domain - the optimum way for us to improve our sailing skills.
We took part in our first match-race event about in 2000. At that time we were 470 sailors and our National Authority was the organizer of The Polish 470 Match Race Championship. From the very beginning we knew that this was the way we would like to continue racing.
In Autumn 2004, we decided to become much more deeply involved in match-racing - especially in events which take place abroad, due to their being only one ranked event in Poland at that time. We won our first ranked event in October 2004 (KSSS Match 4) and we were second in The Audi Spring Battle (April 2005). After a good start to the new season, in the beginning of 2005 Marek twisted his knee and we had more than 3 months break. We returned to match-racing seriously in Autumn 2005: we won The Sopot Match Race Qualifier and we took part in events in Germany, Denmark and France. We finished season 2005 in 65th place in the ISAF's match-race ranking; a massive improvement on our initial ranking of 350.
The first serious event of 2006 was The Diversao Spring Battle (1st place). A few weeks later Marek had to undergo more knee surgery and we were forced to take another 3 - months break. Once our team was again active, the first event we sailed was The Trofeo Zanoletti Grade 2 (3rd place) and then some events in Poland which facilitated our move to a higher world ranking. At the end of the 2006 season we took third place in the Toyota Sopot Match Race 2006 Qualifier and Alster Act 5 and we finished sixth in the most important event in our match race career - The European Match Racing Championship.
At the beginning of the 2007 season we won Lugano Match Cup Act II and Alster Act 6 - both events using Streamlines boats, which we really love sail because of our 470 past. That year new era of match racing in Poland began. Our friends (Maciek Cylupa, Tomek Szymanski) organized series of event called Polish Match Tour and first Polish Match Race Championship. We won all of those events we took part in and Polish Nationals.
After four years of sailing in match-race events we are currently in 27th place in the ISAF's match race ranking and we are still gaining valuable experience on our move towards to the top.
Our rock-steady team (for more details in polish look under link „O NAS - ZAŁOGA”):
